Today, I had the opportunity to interview Jess Dempsey of What Would Karl Do? Jess, a style blogger and stylist from Australia, shows everyone that you can still stay stylish over the course of your pregnancy, and of course, before and after it! We chatted about her love for shoes, how to maintain your personal style while pregnant, and how she came to be a stylist!
How would you describe your personal style?
I love mixing feminine looks with a hint of edgy or masculine pieces/accessories.
When did you decide that you wanted to work as a stylist? How did you go about breaking into the industry?
After working as a Visual Merchandiser for several years, I felt I needed something more. My passion for styling and photoshoots naturally led me into the industry of styling. It was a way to express my own style through visuals/models. One day, I thought, "Well, no one is going to knock on my door", so I had to get myself out there by doing some unpaid styling on photoshoots and runways to build up a portfolio. After a few months, my name and sense of style was promoted with a little help from my blog. I was also able to gain some local celebrity clients.
What's the fashion scene like where you live?
Melbourne is very safe when it comes to fashion. Here, the main colours that people wear are gray, black and white. However; with the growing mainstream fashion culture and influence of blogs, we are starting to see a new wave of fashion come through, with younger girls especially. They often express their own style with tips from overseas.

What she's wearing: Missguided dress (worn as a blouse), ASOS pants, Bally shoes, Vita Fede rings.
Describe your favorite piece in your closet:
My favorite piece in my closet would have to be my classic black Zara blazer. It may not be my most expensive piece, but it is my wardrobe essential! Another item would have to be my Rare Opulence disco ball skirt!!
What advice could you offer to women who want to stay stylish during the course of their pregnancy?
Feeling good during your pregnancy is sometimes challenging, especially if you can't fit into your old clothes. Some women find that because of this, they lose their identity and their personal style. The way I made it work was by staying true to myself and only wearing pieces that suit me, colours that flatter me, and accessorizing with the jewellery, shoes and scarves that still fit me. I love wearing maternity stockings and tight dresses over top of baggy over-sized t-shirts with a long necklace to elongate my body with some leggings underneath. I found it hard to wear jeans as they were not as comfortable as dresses, but long shirts and tops were perfect for me! Oh, and I wear a lot of black as it is slimming!!!
What it-bag do you wish you could get your hands on?
Well I have a great bag collection so far and recently I purchased my Celine Shopper that I just had to have! I am currently seeking a black bag for everyday - the ultimate would be the Birkin, of course. But I think I am still in love with the Louis Vuitton Mahina in black.
